From January 2016, 165 school children from Years 3 to 8 will get the opportunity to play cricket and learn new skills and techniques thanks to the 2016 Rathbones Spring Term Cricket Courses. Enrolment for the hugely popular courses opened on 30thNovember and application forms are available to download from gov.je.
The courses are open to both girls and boys and run for ten weeks commencing Wednesday 13th January 2016. Operated by qualified coaches, the sessions are held on Wednesdays at Oakfield and Fridays at Les Quennevais and Langford Sports Centre. Extra sessions have been put on to keep up with the increased demand.
Lee Meloy, Jersey Cricket Development Manager, comments “Since the introduction of hardball sessions during the 2015 Rathbones Spring Term Cricket Courses we have given around 110 children the opportunity to come and play hardball cricket. Therefore, this year we will be running an additional hardball session on a Wednesday night to cater for its popularity. As a knock on affect we are then able to increase the capacity of younger participants attending the softball sessions".
Thrilled by the success of the courses, Rathbone Investment Management International’s Managing Director, Jonathan Giles adds “We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the Spring Term Cricket Courses. With such a brilliant development programme we have the opportunity to nurture talented youngsters and look forward to seeing some really high level home grown cricketers.”
